Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are cited sequentially within the text at the appropriate points, and uploaded separately as a single document.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines


Original Articles: Original articles should not be more than 3,000 words. The major body of the content should be organized as follows: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion. The quantity of words utilized should be specified, excluding the abstract, references, tables, and figures. We also require that authors limit their overall number of references to 60 and that all references be available in English. We request that you provide all relevant information required by the reporting guidelines for your study.

Systematic Review/Meta-analysis:  Systematic review should not be more than 5,000 words. The PRISMA checklist and flow diagram should be used to assist with the compilation of a systematic review paper. The major body of the content should be organized as follows: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion.  We encourage authors to register their evaluations in advance with registries such as PROSPERO ( We also ask that writers limit their overall number of references to 50 and that all references be available in English.

Letter to the Editor

No abstract; 5 or fewer references and 2,000 words maximum.

Research Reporting Guidelines

An EQUATOR research reporting checklist should be used, including:

  • CONSORT checklist for reports of randomized trials and cluster randomized trials
  • PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • STROBE checklist for observational research


New submission

Please be aware that submission indicates that the content has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere, other than as a brief abstract in the proceedings of a scientific meeting or symposium.

Nursing & Sleep Research (NSR) Journal offers Free Format submission for a streamlined and simplified submission process that allows researchers to submit their manuscript in their preferred formatting style at the time of original submission. If your work is selected for revision, you will be directed to make your changes through the same submission system.

Revised submissions

If you are invited to revise your paper after the initial submission, you must deliver the revised manuscript in the format provided below.

Title page
The title page should contain:

  • A brief informative title that includes the important terms.
  • The full names of the authors.
  • The author's institutional affiliations.
  • The author's complete postal and email addresses, as well as phone numbers, to which correspondence regarding the work should be sent.
  • Word count includes the abstract and acknowledgments but excludes table or figure legends and references.

Abstract and keywords
Articles must have a structured abstract of 250 words or fewer that describes the study's purpose, basic methodologies, main findings, and main conclusions. There should be no abbreviations or references in the abstract. Five keywords, in alphabetical order, should be provided below the abstract for indexing purposes and should be drawn from the US National Library of Medicine's Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) browser list. The main text file should be prepared using Microsoft Word. 

Main text
The following sections should be included in the manuscript's main text:

  • Abstract
  • Introduction
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusions
  • References

Reference Style
The journal uses APA 7th Format.

Tables and Figures

The total number of Tables and Figures should not exceed 5. Tables, Figures, and Supplementary materials should be sent separately.

Tables should be self-contained and should supplement, rather than duplicate, the information in the text. Tables must be numbered sequentially. Each table should be displayed on its own sheet of A4 paper, with a detailed but brief legend above it.


Figures should be cited in the main text in sequential order.

Supplementary materials

The additional Tables or Figures can be published as supplementary materials using the same format as the abovementioned.

During the first screening, the NSR Journal employs a Turnitin plagiarism checker on all submitted articles. The journal accepts up to a 25% similarity index. Papers that include plagiarism or self-plagiarism will be rejected immediately.
